Review: Cuckoo Song

Cuckoo Song
Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book from Pan Macmillan in return for an honest review.

I didn't know what to expect when starting this book, it was the cover that first caught my attention and after reading the blurb I was even more curious and just had give it a read.

The story is totally different from what I was expecting, it was so well written and I found myself totally engrossed in the tale. The relationships between the characters are so vivid and full of detail and feeling, you can't help but feel for them and grow to love them. The story itself is unique, dark, atmospheric, creepy and strange but also heart warming, poetic, magical and brilliantly done.

I am keen to read more of Frances Hardinge after reading Cuckoo Song and already plan on buying a copy of this one for my daughter. This would be an ideal book to introduce younger readers into the world of dark wonderful tales and horror without it being overly scary.
